Ladies and Gents,
Trying to decide which rig will serve me better. I have a HT and want to go mobile. So far I have narrowed down the choices to two rigs that have every capability that I may need in a SHTF situation.

Icom 706MKIIG - http://www.icomamerica.com/products/amateur/706mkIIg/

and

Yeasu FT-897D - http://www.yaesu.com/indexVS.cfm?cmd=DisplayProducts&ProdCatID=102&ProdID=696&DivisionID=65&isArchived=0

Both of these radios have HF/VHF/UHF capabilities in TX and RX. Providing coverage of the 160-10 meter bands plus the 6 m, 2 m, and 70 cm bands.

I plan on installing the rig in my truck, with the proper antenna and tuner. I also want the option of removing it and using it as a base station if necessary.

Anyone out there own either of these models and have any input?

I would think that the -897 would make a very awkward mobile rig. The FT-857 a virtually the same radio, but in a mobile-friendly package. It's what I have.

The Icom 706 is highly thought of. Personally, I'd get what ever happens to be on sale at the time; leaning towards the Yaesu.
