J and G sales in Arizona is advertising Wolf 223 soft point ammo on sale for 229 bucks per thousand rounds on there web site.. This is a cheaper price than I can get FMJ for. I was shooting this stuff out of my ARs and didn't have one malfunction. I thought that with the soft point that it might not feed correctly but no such problem occurred. All of my rifles have GI barrels or GI spec barrels so As long as I continue my reliablity with this ammo and my accuracy good enough for minute of human then I will use it for training and SHTF situations. I will try to run some ballistic tests with this ammo as soon as I get the new shipment in and will post the results here.

Feeding might not be an issue for you but you might want to limit the extended use of steel casings in your AR. Steel is harder on the extractor/ejector. Some newer rifles have incorporated solid style ejector to help combat the wear of steel casing" similar to ak 47" . However AR's don't have the toughest extractors/ejectors.

while I can see how steel on steel would wear quickly it also is important to remember that parts wear out normally through normal use to. I once had a bolt break in half on an M16. And I can guarantee that that weapon never fired one round of wolf ammo. I have had to replace 2 extractor claws so far and one of those weapons never fired steel cases ammo. While the other AR has been fired almost exclusively wolf ammo.

I believe that J and G also has steel cased 308 on sale. It may be Brown Bear or Wolf but it is also 308 and it might be worth stocking up on some since it is factory new ammo and not surplus.

This ammo works fairly well in my AR15s. I have fired 500 rounds so far from 2 different lot numbers and have not had one malfunction. I also test fired 2 rounds through water jugs to see how the soft point would react. The rounds lost the jacket in the water and deformed but stayed in one piece. They looked like they dumped there energy rapidly in the water. I used a level 3 vest to catch the rounds but neither round made it very far through the vest.
Now for the bad news. I couldn't get a good group with this ammo. It seemed that 3 inches at 100 yards is the best I can do. So I do plan on using this ammo for blasting targets and 3 gun matches but I will keep looking for a good deal on more accurate ammo.
Over all I am happy with the newer wolf ammo and will experiment with different types but for regular 100 yards or less shooting this stuff is good enough and if I had to use it in a SHTF event I would feel confident that it would do the job well.
