I saw my first Century AR15 rifle at a local gunshop today. Well, It lives up, er, down, to my idea of what century builds. What a POS!!! I could hardly believe anyone would put together such a poorly assembled, poorly finished rifle but then I remembered I was looking at a Century product.

It appeared that they had some anrgy beavers grind all the anodizing off the upper receiver and painted it black with some Kmart paint. The grind marks were clearly visible. The profile of the shell deflector was visibly changed. The shell deflector looked like it would just bounce the shell casing into a lefty's face.

The Forward Assist housing had been sanded down to a feather edge. The M16 bolt carrier had been neutered by some hack on a mill and still had razor sharp edges where they didn't deburr it after they cut it. They also saw some reason to (poorly) reprofile the hammer recocking ramp/ firing pin shroud. The A2 windage knob had been sanded down to the point that I couldn't see the arrow on it and repainted with the same Kmart paint.

The best part was it was withon $100 of a used Bushy!

Looks like Century is keeping their reputation intact

are you sure that was all century's doing? the way i heard it was the parts for these rifles were made by military contractors, these rifles were probably assembled from parts that didn't pass inspection, just like the WASR's from romania. haven't seen any myself, just got back in country. i'm heading to a gun show this weekend so maybe i'll see some for myself. been thinking about getting one so i hope that you just found a poor example.

yeah, so i went to the gun show. didn't see a single century ar. also went to two gunshops and no century ar's. one guy said that they probably won't get them due to all the bad rumors going around about them. looks like you were right about that one.

alright, finally got my hands on a century made ar-15. truthfully they don't look any worse than the ones they issue us in the military. no bad machining marks and its seemed pretty solid. don't know about the accuracy but it seems worth checking out.

Well there's an endorsement. Really, from the look of some of the POS M16's I've seen issued I can't see how that shines favorably on Century's POS. If it says Century on it RUN AWAY - RUN AWAY!!!!

Save your money and buy a quality rifle you can depend on instead of angry beaver garbage.
