50s Yugo KB/medical advice?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two years ago I was shooting my 1919 utilizing some of the then cheap 50s Yugo 8MM. I was firing off a BREN tripod with recoiling adapter using the same headspace that had worked well with 70s Yugo. It was a beautiful day although that bears no signifigance on this story.
The thing was running slugishly and on examination one of the fired casings was short a primer. I adjusted the headspace a little (I forget which way, it was two years ago) and it ran some better but still no sewing machine and several missing primers.
Somewhere in the second belt something stung me on the lower right quadrant of my abdomen. I stopped firing , hopped around cursing for a moment and tried to figure what the Hell stung me. I couldn't find any obvious culprit and finaly decided that a case must have somehow ricocheted off the adapter or tripod and hit me ,as the wound, now bleeding profusely, was shaped like a case mouth.
Time passed, the seasons changed, , leaves turned bright colors twice. People married, were born, some died and the wound healed and formed a handsome scar. It changed from its cresent shape to a mound aproximatly the size of an English pea. When I related the tale of its origin I always used the phrases " red hot air cooled Browning", "shell fragment" and let casual listeners just sort of assume that I contracted it singlehandedly fighting off a human wave attack.
A few months ago I noticed there was a sort of a lump in the area of the former wound and it seemed almost like a fragment of something was in my gut. I started getting a come now and then kinda rash around the affected area. My curiousity was aroused.....
Last week I was at an old Vet buddy of mines place and I got him to radiograph the suspect region and guess what was in there? (Y'all saw this comeing, right?) a Yugo primer!
I got a policy of not enrichining the medical or mortuary folks unless I absolutly have to so I'm planning to remove it myself if I decide it needs to go. The affected region is fairly far removed from where the artery bifurcates and I got Lidocane and a sharp pocket knife so I'm good to go, I guess. I do my own suturing and treat myself with livestock medicine so I aint a rookie at all this.
......
(Anectdote: A neigbor lady who knew me well called at 11:00 PM on Friday night with a badly absessed tooth wanting to know if the leftover medication from her Labrador Retreiver would be alright , would it matter that it was out of date and how much should she take? I told her that out of date dog drugs ought to do her just fine and that I usualy started with a low dose and raised it till I felt compelled to lick my nuts then backed off a little)
......
Even though I know most everything there is to know about everything I would appriceate any advice or commentary from our astute forum members. Specificly: Anyone know the chemical compisition of Yugo primers ? Isnt it a fulimate of Mercury? Aint that poisionous? Am I gonna die from it or just get stupid? Is whatever the priming chemicals compisition is changed positively or negatively by the burning process? Wasnt there a King Peter of Yugoslavia ? If so , is he alive and sueable?
Thanks in advance, Dutch
Oh yeah, don't try none of this at home, y'all
