View Full Version : 5 n 1 fruit trees?
Hey guys,
Got my burgess seed catalog in and they advertise 5 in 1 fruit trees - apples pears etc. They are hybrid dwarfs, just wondering if anyone has experiance with them. Would be cool to have some fruit trees that produce 5 varieties of fruit...lol.

My grandfather tried to work with these. They are ok for a few years, seemed like they were really prone to disease.
But this was more than 20 yeras ago, I doubt they are a true hybrid, more like grafted limbs.
I just bought six trees of what I want, wait 5 years and see if they produce enough fruit for me.
Yeah, I think you're right with grafted limbs. They are supposed to be dwarf variety though. I may get one. I like the idea of 5 differant types of apples...lol! Might have to get the cherry, pear and peach trees too.

I would not waste my time on anything like that 5 n 1. Go with some regular trees that are well suited for your area..

I have 2 of them 1 cherry and 1 fruit salad. I put them in the ground 4 years ago. Last year I got 1 plum and 4 cherries. Some of the grafts died so I will never see that particular type of fruit. They have grown well so far in a properly prepared hole in my sandy soil in CO, as they started out as nothing more than a twig in the ground. This year looks more promising on the cherry tree due to the multitude of blooms. The other tree has no blooms as of yet but we'll see.
