Been thinking of what I'm going to plant this spring.

I'm definately going to have:

Tomatos - Romas and Better Boys
Chili peppers - Anaheims
Cucumbers - smaller ones for pickling

Things I'm thinking about planting:

Zucchinni
Bush purple hull peas
garlic
onions

I have planter boxes, and not a lot of room, but they produce well.

I'm seriously thinking of cranking up my small garden again.

With the high food prices lately it would now be worth it. Tomatoes are a must as well as cucumers. Radishes always did well for me here too.

Yeah, I've been thinking of trying my hand at canning this year as well. Pickles and tomatos, as well as peppers. I may spring for tobasco pepper plants as well as banana peppers.

I have about a 1/2 acre garden atm, but recently I've added another 1/2 acre to the available space. I realize not everyone can devote 1/2 to 3/4 acre, but I'm specialzing in raised bed and dense planting.

I've never been the kind to put the seeds (or live plants) in the ground and hope for the best. I use Miracl-Gro and fertize, as well as an extensive use of mulch and kitchen scraps. I also have a moveable chicken coop that I use to eat up the weeds and fertilize in the off season.

This past year in my 4x24 raised bed, I planted 8 live cabbage plants, 10 lettuce plants in 1/3 of the bed. The other half got:
Tabasco pepper
3 Jalapenos
Cayenne
Habanero
Sweet Green Bell
Sweet Red Bell
Sweet Bananna Pepper

-and-

Sweet 100 Tomato
Roma
5 Betterboys (Hybrid)
Early Girl
Mr Stripy (Heirloom)
German Queen (Heirloom)

I had a frost that killed the tomatos and peppers in October, I picked all the green tomatos and ran out of fresh tomatos on Dec 15th.

I also ran 4 rows (20 ft) of corn and one row of green beans. The corm suprised me with an excellent crop in a drought year (never mind I watered it) and the green beans continued to give me beans until August.

This year I'm expanding to another raised bed and moving the corn to its own 1/2 acre.

This year has red, yellow and green onions (red for salad and sandwich, yellow for cooking) chalets, lettuce, cucumbers, green beans (bush), cabbage (which is still in from last fall), field peas, squash, leeks, radish, and carrots (seed already in the ground).

Going to try something new this year with potatoes, seed potatoes grown vertically in a strong fence and grown in straw/mulch. At harvest, you dump over the enclsure and collect your potatos, no lost crop in the ground.

The German Queen tomato, while heirloom, make the largest crop in the garden, some individual fruits being 2 lbs! Not a heavy seed maker, I saved some, and will try to grow tomatos from those seeds this year, so I'm saving my own and putting some away over time.

The corn last year was hybrid G90 and Silver Queen, I'm still looking for a good heirloom seed in corn.

I was able to can some tomatos last year, and plan to can MUCH more this year. The only concern with canning is glass jars, but that is the price for a loooooong term storage.

As a side fun crop I have grapes and blackberries, which I enjoy straight off the vine, or in a tastey wine

As I said, I have a little more room, but the fresh vegtables are great (I have to go to the garden to get lettuce for my sandwich!) and cut down on the grocery bill.

As soon as I get the parts together, I'm going to put a small well on the property (already there) on solar so I'm watering for nothing.

Good luck!!!

I was thinking of planting some cucumbers and tomatoes, haven't decided yet. Planted both last year, but the results weren't so good, hopefully have better luck this year with the lessons learned from last.
