Wal-Mart's new CEO has the support of the Board to cease ALL Firearms sales before the end of 2008.

Can ammunition be far behind?

This from Frugal's poster Rooster :

" Wally World is done selling firearms. They are phasing them out completely and should not have any stores selling firearms by this time next year ... regardless of whether or not a particular store has high gun sales.

New President of the Company is not a gun fan. It's official. He wants them out of his stores and the Board has agreed. "Too much headache potential."

Anyway, this past weekend I picked up five boxes of 180 GR Remington PMC 40 S&W (50 rds ea) for $2.50 per box red-tagged. (Batesburg-Leesville store)

Ten boxes of 308 Federal Power Shok (20 rds) @ $10.97 per box and ten boxes of the same in 30-06 for the identical same price. (Irmo-Harbinson store) These were not red-tagged and the same ammo was selling for $16.97 per box at all the other area stores (West Columbia, Cayce, Lexington, Newberry and B&L.) "

More from Rooster:

PS Edit: I was also told that Cast wants to go more towards music, electronics, Internet sales and marketing and the more Yuppie middle and upperclass America crowd and he feels the guns are being sold to the wrong people and there is potential trouble in the "gun crowd."

Was also told to expect "No Concealed Carry Allowed" signs on Wally World doors in 2008. The guy is anti-gun and he has John Flemming and some Raul guy convinced hook line and sinker.

I actually talked to a friend who had just come out of a meeting concerning their remodel - and their manager had just come from Bentonville with some other guy. They were told in Bentonville when they protested to having guns pulled from their store in their region, which is in the Heart of the South and a big time gun selling store ... "doesn't matter, we're phasing them out of all of our stores."

Here is the rest of the story as it was told to me.

The head of US Business Strategy of Walmart is now a guy by the name of Carter Cast (formerly President and CEO of Walmart). For those not savvy with the Internet world, Carter Cast is the former Chief Marketing Officer for ... (drum roll please) eBay. Before he left eBay for Wally World he ended gun sale items on eBay and PayPal. He has now officially mandated that guns be phased out of Wally World by next Christmas.

It's a done deal. Trust me. My friend let me in the Holy of Holies one time ... he is big time in this region and he has never once told me wrong about Wally World. When he told me that Carter Cast was the Head of US Business Strategy of Wally World and was the one who had handed down this decision ... it all made sense. He used to be the President and CEO but his new title is bigger. According to what I have read about him, he is selling us out and making them more and more money in return with the sheeple crowd. "

If the guns and ammo go, I'll miss the cheap WWB ammo, but it was Wal Mart that put a whole lot of those little mom-and-pop gunstores out of business when they came roaring into town.

It might be good to see some of those small, local gunstores make a reappearance. I think it's usually better to buy your guns from solid, pro-gun, neighbor folks anyway.

I for one hope that our stores here in the South continue to sell guns and ammo. While I understand that some Mom & Pop business disappeared due to WM selling for less; the people that benefit most from a WM entry into a market are the buying public, including those who used to be in the business.

If WM does eliminate guns and ammo, their $95 NEF shotguns will be $195 down the street, the $9 box of 550 rounds of 22's will be $19, the $200 Henry's will be $300 and the ability to order most major maker's long guns directly from the WM counter catalog for 10% over, will no longer be an option. If you doubt these prices, just check in at a gun show or try to buy ammo from a local sporting goods store or internet business.

I fail to see how WM would have legal problems selling firearms as they go through the local, state & federal process of approval before delivery and they cannot be faulted for selling improperly if they follow the rules. Both the salesman and a supervisor are involved in the process, so it's doubtful that both would be conspiring to evade the law.

And, we all know that criminals do not buy new guns anywhere, big store or small, so once again, only the law-abiding consumers are paying for some fathead executive's misguided decision.

As far as prohibiting Concealed Carry, I wonder how they would respond to a lawsuit from a carry-permit customer, assaulted enroute to their car without benefit of his gun for defense. Bet it would be one heck of a landmark case!

I, for one, will be lobbying my local store manager to buck this effort.

IMHO of course...Buckeye Charly

Bought some ammo at WM on Sat and the Asst Store Mgr was behind the counter for some reason. I asked him about the possibility of WM stopping guns & ammo sales in 2008. He said "no way that is going to happen here...we make too much profit in this dept and it is the same at all stores who sell the stuff." He also said he had neither seen or heard any discussion of any kind on this subject. He also added that such a ban would also stop sales of related hunting clothing and equipment, something that the powers that be would not tolerate.

Anyway, another view of the situation...for what it is worth...

Time will tell, but Wally World would not be the first store chain to go P.C. forfiting profits.
