well during shtf batteries are going to be very useful for flashlights, music devices to keep the boredom away. also for eotechs you need aa's and my suit scope takes watch batteries. so my question is where is a good place to get bulk batteries at the best price. would something like sam's or costco be your best bet. also is there a hazmat fee on shipping batteries?

I have never seen batteries cheaper then at Sam's club. The tough part is trying to standardize on a single size. The smart money is "D" size. But few gadgets use them these days.

I remember seeing a battery adapter somewhere that allows you to use smaller batteries in a larger light or radio. This is for the standard C or D.
I will try to find the source.

Here are some sources for battery adapters.
These sources also have a lot of other battery related itmes and batteries themselves:

Costco has good batteries at good prices.
36 AA Duracell runs around $12. Or 24 AA Duracell Pro at the same price.
12 D Duracell is around $10..., and 12 C Duracell is about the same.
There is also 48 AA Kirkland batteries for around $12, and Consumer Report, a couple months back, said the Kirkland batteries are very good batteries at a great price.

Check out the battery station website. Good prices on cr123 batteries.
I like the idea of going to all rechargable batteries. Better for the enviroment, more convienent and cheaper in the long run..

I think you'd do better with gasoline or kerosene lamps. For flashlights, get ones that need no batteries (see link below):

Aladdin lamps are great too. No need to pump them up!
I have a Grundig radio and think it's a great piece of equipment too.
