Generators need fuel. Fuel needs to be stored in bulk. I've looked around and I like the idea of propane generators at lot. Price is cheaper than gas/diesel and I have yet to find an expiration date, whereas current 10% blend gas can rot easily. Propane isn't susceptible to not being run in a while (like gas is when gas sets in the carburetor). Fuel efficiency is the same, for all practical purposes.

The only gotcha is a pressure storage vessel. Remember that the vessels are typically filled to 80% max.

There's a company that mod's Yamaha generators for propane use--and Yamaha blesses it and honors the warranty.

I was thinking solar/batteries/inverter would be the best single solution, but I've since realized diversity is best. A welder/genset would be a good mix.
