As I gradually prepare and stock emergency supplies, one item that I would like to add to my medical supplies is a book that, in layman's terms, describes surgical proceedures. Obviously this would be for use in extreme situations only. Still, if you were in a position where no doctor was available and would not be available for some time, having a "how to" book describing things like how to set a fracture, remove an appendix, etc., would be good to have.
It may well be that no such book exists, but I thought I would put the subject up here to see what anyone had to say. Any ideas?

Look for ST 31-91B US Army Special Forces Medical Handbook, its what I use. What EMS training didn't cover, this does.

Not sure I'd want a first time layman removing an appendix.
I guess if thats your only option.......

There are lots of medical references in PDF form that you can download and study at your leisure....
