Get It NOW!!!
I was in the local[SW Wa. state] yesterday afternoon with my 7 yr old[all HE want's for Christmas is ammo/gun's:D], and asked the clerk in Sporting good's if she had any CCI .22 on sale."No, she say's, but, Ken...ya better get what you can NOW!!!" I was rather surprized at her tone of voice...very emphatic...so asked her if she might be aware of someting I was nopt...long story short, she showed me a memo from her ammo supplier, stating that both primer's and ALL CALIBER'S OF AMMO they currently carry will become even harder to aquire in the VERY NEAR FUTURE. She could not, of course, give me a copy of this memo, probably should not even have showed it to me...but she own's 5 10-22's, and know's I like them too[I have a kit for mounting them on wheelbarrel's:D:D:D],I will of course not mention the name of the store. GET IT NOW, WHILE YOU CAN!!!:ee

Could be that .22 ammo by the brick hasn't increased in price in about 25 years. A shortage would be a good "excuse" to raise prices to where thay probably should be. Just my .02

sorry folks but brass is brass and primer is primer and lead is lead. All three are in short supply. Lets do some math
A squad of 15 Iraqi's are going out for some training with the US Gi's. Each Iraqi has 3, 30 round mags for training purposes. 3 x 30 equals 90 rounds of ammo per man 90 rounds of ammo x 15 men = 1,350 rounds of ammo for one squad for one round of practice.
Mulitiply this by the number of squads who you may think are in training at any given moment.
Mulitiply this by the number of days per year that they going out for some shooting practice, and no matter what you start with, sooner or later you will come up with something in the area of a billion.
Now add to this the number of US troops who are also training with it. Now add to these numbers all the ammo being used in actual combat, now multiply this by Afganistan (both training of locals and US troops and combat use as well) and if you did not come up with a billion the first time, you will now. Now just for those of you who like to guess low numbers add the british burning ammo.
Now mulitiply all this by the terrorists who want us all dead then mulitiply that by the number of rounds they use in training, (ok so thats not such a large number judging by their accuracy) and then by the number of rounds used in combat, (you have to admit thats a large one, judging by the spray and pray method of combat they like to employ) and if you did not come up with a billion before I bet you do now.
Not a lot of recycling going on or reloading, so its all vigin ammo. How long do you think that is going to happen before YOUR prices at home are effected. Even if they paid for their own ammo, it would still be ammo used and the demand on the market will result in an increase in prices. In times of war, perhaps gold is not the best investment. Perhaps primers and brass and powder and bullets would be better to have stock piled.
Now lets assum my logic is spot on. In short there is lots of demand for a product we all love to use. This results in a price increase for all. Now follow my twisted logic a step further. The war in terror is going to go on for many more years. The polititions, don't know how to fight a war let alone win one. So here we go for a long drawn out campaign.
Translation? Its going to get worse before it gets better. yup load up now. By this time next year it will be worse. By this time in 2 years, worse still and so on and so forth till its over. Next question is will it ever be over?
Just as a side note, add to this all the ammo being burned in all the many other squables all over the world. Yup just getting worse.

Very true I'm afraid. Not only ammo but reloading supplies are increasing in price constantly. My local Sportsmans Warehouse was out of primers and nearly out of powder for over two months until recently. They told me that China is buying up primers from all over the world because they are ramping up their own ammunition production.

I bought 10K in primers last weekend.
Everybody is talking about the sky falling and it will when everybody starts to hoard supplies.

Just like the primer scare of the late 80's.
The rumor went around about limited shelf life primers and the hoarding began.
