...and to your team (if you have one), and your family.
If you have not heard about the Appleseed Shoots put on by Fred and the gang at RWVA, then here is your call.
What they are teaching is good solid knowledge of basic marksmanship, and a bit of history as well. If you think you are good, go anyway. I went, and took several others, and I can tell you I got my pride pretty well booted. I 'thought' I was good, but was proven otherwise, and it takes a 'Man' to admit that, especially on a public forum.
The reason that I believe that this is important is that this is a survival forum after all, and you should be the best that you can in defending what you do have if the time should come.

7.62, it is indeed a great program. Many people now are taking their .22's to conserve on the expensive ammo, but I believe that this does not detract from the experience or the learning, and neither do they. They are now even pushing bringing that .22 for the short range stuff, and then using the big ones for the actual long range shooting.
I hope to go again soon to see if I have regressed or improved. :D

I am sort of surprised that more people have NOT jumped in here to say they have gone. For a survival board I would expect more shooters and less collectors, and those wanting to prove they can do it, or improve if they cant. I do know it is a small board, but come on... :)
Even if that AK that you use shoots an intermediate round that you may not want to shoot past 300 meters, shouldn't you do your best with it anyway? Do you think in a survival situation that putting holes in something with even a lowly .22LR at 200 will be something that people ignore? I know I would not want to get hit.. :)
I know, just ranting. I have heard excuses up the wazoo, and have even used a few myself now and then. I could entertain you with how much going cost me in lost work, but nahh, it doesn't really matter anyway. I will still go again, with or without you tagging along. :)

The Appleseed Tour is crisscrossing the nation, there is bound to be one near you. If not find them a place to hold one in your neck of the woods. Get with the folks at appleseedinfo.org and let them know you have a place for a shoot. The requirements are a 25m range with a suitable backstop (usually at least 6ft) and able to hold 25-50 shooters (prone). After that we can get you on the schedule. We are working on the 2008 Tour as we speak (or type).

Well, I would like to go to one in the Mid-Tn area.
I have been having difficulty with being poor right now.
I will need to work on the sitting position as I hurt my back last year from a horse wreck.
Saving up for the gas trip is the biggest obstacle right now.
I am working on some little jobs that if they come to fruition that I can put some money away for gas.
I would really like to go to one so that when I get home I can still do some practice.
I am a decent shot and have been shot at 3x in my life but couldn't justify the return fire but one time because of other factors.
20-25 people is too much for my place as me and all my neighbors are horse people and the horses would not have a good day.
Best we can do is to shoot now and then when deer and turkey season opens up.
