Well I competed in a 3 gun match last night and it was a real eye opener. I use to consider my night fighting skills good but this showed me some serious deficiencies in my and other peoples training. First and foremost while night sights work they don't help you to see the target so you either need a light on your weapon or night vision scope or some type of flare system. The Harries technique is a lot harder to use than to just have a weapons mounted light. For the weapons lights bigger isn't better. Some weapons lights seem to big and heavy for what they were intended. And when using a weapons light don't keep it on all the time it will destroy your night vision and expose your position. illuminate your target, fire, shut off light, change positions, illuminate if necessary to confirm target is down and then shut off the light and change positions again. One guy kept his light on through the entire course. And spare batteries for lights and scopes are a must on you weapon. The pistol grip is a descent storage place. I hope all of you can try out these type of matches because it really is a great type of training.
