This was addressed rather thoroughly in the Survival Medicine post http://www.survivalfiles.info/forums/showthread.php?t=336
but I'll try to help out here...
Here is a list of basic but necessary First Aid Items.
Additional items suggestions welcome.
Imodium AD get the Equate generic brand from Wal-Mart
Zantac again, save money with the generic equivalent
Gas X this is probably not necessary
Alcohol replace with providone/iodine solution
Tums bicarbonate of soda is cheaper and has other uses too
Asprin again, get the generic
NyQuil not particularly necessary
Cough Medication check w/ your MD, and get a good prescription cough supressent instead
Pedia Care (children's medication) Gator Aid will do the same thing... buy in powdered form
Bee Sting Kits use generic benedryl for anaphalatic shock
Merthiolate tincture of iodine can be used to purify water
Bleach get a good disenfectant like Quat from Buckeye Chemical
Bandages various sizes be a bit more explicit here: 4" kling or rollar gauze
Bandaids yes, get the large size
First Aid Tape get 4' adhesive tape in large rolls
Gauze you're better off with telfa for dressings
Triple AntiBiotic Cream the old bacitracin is probably better
Ace Bandages 4" & 6" sizes, and safety pins to hold them
Betadine same as providone/iodine.
Swabs the long ones work best
Tweezers a good set of surgical ones
Scissors 1 set of surgical scissors, and 1 set of EMT shears
Cotton balls sterile?
Burn Kits not really necessary if you have sterile dressings and normal saline IV solution.
I am looking for any items I fail to include.
Thanks in advance.

This is not a bad starter list
Dressings/Gauze/Applicators
3 4in Kling Conforming Gauze Bandages
2 3in Kling Conforming Gauze Bandages
2 2in Kling Conforming Gauze Bandages I think I'd just go with 6 4" klings, keep them all the same size
2 Steri-Strip ½ x 4in good option to sutures
10 5x9 ABD Combine Dressing you can probably get the Army-issue ABDs from your local Surplus store for a buck or so each.
3 4x3 Topper Dressing Sponges
7 4x4 Topper Dressing Sponges again, I think I'd stick to one size
15 2x2 Dressing Sponges
10 Telfa Non-stick pads Telfa is the best dressing out there in my opinion
1 Moleskin, package of 3 strips
1 Bandage, Muslin, compressed, camo go to the local fabric store, buy 2 yards of muslin (or cammo if you want to go fancy), fold in half, cut, fold corner to corner, cut again, then package... you now have 4 triangular bandages for about $2. You'll also need large safety pins.
1 Q-tips, small package
10 Band-Aid Sheer extra large adhesive bandages, sterile
10 Band-Aid Sheer medium adhesive bandages, sterile
60 Band-Aid bandages, sterile
2 Elastic Bandages, self-adhering,
3in Coban Tape Coban is the fancy stuff... a large 4" roll of adhesive tape will be a lot cheaper
Gloves sterile, and the right size..
1 Paper tape, 3/4in probably not necessary
1 Paper tape, 2in probably not necessary
2 Transpore, 3/4in
2 Adhesive, 3/4in use your 4" roll of adhesive tape and tear off any width you like
1 Latex glove box
2 Gloves, sterile, size 8 make certain to get your right size
RX
1 Hydrogen peroxide bottle
1 Tylenol, 500mg tabs, bottle Tylenol is rather toxic if taken for prolonged periods and deadly if overdosed... I won't carry it - get aspirin instead.
1 Isopropyl Alcohol Bottle again, provodone/iodine or betadine is better
1 Ibuprofen, 200mg tabs, bottle get the 1000cap, 200mg bottle... 600mg and 800mg are the Rx dosages
1 Hydrocortisone 1% cream
1 Multivit/multimin w/ herbs, bottle
1 Triple Antibiotic ointment Doctor Baboon thinks plain old bacitracin is better, and he's converted me to his way of thinking on this one.
1 Tums, extra strength, bottle bicarbonate of soda is more useful
1 Anti-itch cream (Benadryl)Replace with 1 lamatril anti-fungus cream for athletes foot or "jock itch". Also consider carrying a Monostat kit for vaginal yeast infections if there are women in your group.
1 Vaseline, small container
1 Betadine, 8oz bottleTake 16 oz bottle of betadine if you have room.
Add 100 or 200 benedryl capsules for anaphylactic shock or as a mild sedative
Tools
1 Blood pressure cuff w/ stethoscope
1 Blood Glucose Monitor good until the battery dies
2 Hemostats you'll want more than two, and curved rather than straight
1 Tweezers
1 Scissors surgical scissors
1 EMT Shears
Misc
4 Water bottles
1 Purell hand sanitizerAll in all, this looks like a pretty good setup. You might want to consider adding an otoscope, some powdered Gator-Aide to prevent heat exhaustion, some sub-lingual glucose for insulin shock, and assorted sizes of oropharengyl airways. A good scalpel handle with an assortment of sterile blades might come in handy and won't weigh too much. For OTC meds, the best deals I've found are Wal-Mart's Equate Brand. This will save you considerable dollars over the brand names.
Good luck!

Thanks to both Sago and Jonas Parker.
As for quantities; it will depend on how many people you want to supply and for what length of time.
