Just thinking about getting some tactical gear to support my Garand but not really sure what would work best. I love Tactical Tailor's gear and was wondering if anyone might help suggest what sort of pouches they think would work best from there or any where for the Garand.

SwampFox,why not look around in your area for a military collector's show for used garand ammo belts or even repros. Repros would be like new without losing the dollar value of something collectable.
You might find something at Sportsman's Guide or Cheaper than Dirt. They sometimes have repos.

You might also need/want a bayo. I don't plan on close quarters, but ya never know!
If you go with the ammo belt be sure to get some ammo belt suspenders to fit it. Your back will thank you for it! The belt would allow you to wear about 80 to 100 rds and you can get some sort of pouch to carry several more enbloc loaded clips ready to go.
HTH,tedbo.

I actually do have 2 WWII ammo belts for the Garand plus the WWII (repro) combat suspenders and some other WWII items. I thought about just using that but wanted others opinions. I do also have a bay to go with the Garand, pretty nasty lookin gun with it on. :)

Thanks!

The old Garand Belts work but were I looking at a modern tactical rig for the Garand I would take a long hard look at the FMCO M1 Garand Vest (http://www.antipersonnel.net/fmco/001.html#4) . It will carry 192 rounds in a modern load carrying configuration that will be far more comfortable than the WWII belts. The more comfortable you are the longer you can go and that is important when your humping in the bush for a prolonged amount of time. The FMC rig also makes the ammunition more accessible which will increase your rate of fire while on the two way rifle range. I personally have always held the M1 in extremely high regard and truthfully I hold it higher than a FAL or M14. A man that owns and knows how to use the M1 has more rifle than most men will ever have or know how to use effectively. It is IMHO the pinacle of the rifleman's rifle.

usgi alice rig will hold 7 garand clips in each m 16 3 mag pouch put the first 3 clips in point down the next 3 in point up and stick one in the back point down and close the flap they dont rattle and are pretty handy to load

2 canteens 3 mag pouches an m 9 holster , compass and a buttpack reside on my pistol belt and a cold steel recon tanto taped and zip tied to the left shoulder strap that rig did just fine for me in panama kosovo and iraq now it carries garand clips instead of mags

2 of the mag pouches have ammo in them and the third contains

weapons cleaning accessories (boresnake oil bottle small rag, short steel spoon , spare batteries for nv, sharpie marker , water pur tablets and some 800 mg ibuprofin in a match case , 1/2 roll of black tape, red chem light , small map of home area aprox 15k square, aa mag light with blue lense, and a few 8 inch zip ties

butt pack normally contains gi poncho , section of 550 cord , field stripped mre , spare socks, part roll of tp squashed flat and double zip lock bagged , bic lighter and a small first aid kit

if you do decide to use a gi alice rig ditch the metal alice clips and use heavy plastic zip ties , dummy cord the canteens to the belt with about 3 ft of para cord and wrap it around the neck when not in use as they like to come out when moving through the woods and the cord could come in handy later , krylon camo paint will help dull it down some and give better concealment i sprayed over mine with the tan before irag and like it alot better now that it is "dirty" it blends better here in the midwest

also if using a garand i paint the back of the clips of different types of specialty ammo / red for tracers , white for api and leave the ball bare

same applies to mag fed rifles just paint the base plate of the mag load the mags into your gear with the base plate up when full and you can instantly find a mag of tracers or specialty ammo should you need it put the mags back in empty or part full with the base plate down so you can verify in the dark how many full/part mags you have and how many are empty without having to look
