OK, so I may have made a mistake... yesterday, I purchased a FAL for $400 bucks. Included 2 scopes, one a Brit military scope, 5 20 round mags (2 loaded) and a case. Which, I thought it was a pretty good deal. My issue is (why it might have been a mistake) that the rifle is half metric and the other half isn't. Is that a bad thing? Unfortunatly I jumped on the rifle without really looking thinking that 400 for the thing and all those mags was a pretty good deal. I know lots here have them and know more about them than I, please help!
Thanks everyone!

What kind of parts are on it? For $400, if it's a good receiver you may have gotten away with stealing it.
As long as your barrel and upper receiver are both of the same type (Both Inch or both Metric), you should be fine. If your lower is the opposite, but still the hammer-falls where it needs to and the rat-tail rides the spring true, you're fine.
If it blasts well, for $400 you did well.

Sounds like a FrankenFAL to me, possibly one of the ones done by Century?
Either way it 'should' be ok, just note which parts are which. Check it out, it may be a good shooter.

Indeed, keep us up to date, and also get over to FALFILES, you will learn much there.
If it has an Imbel or DSA receiver, you got a great deal. If it is a Century or Hesse receiver, you still did ok, but you may have a bit of a long road ahead of you.
There are some rather easy fixes to some, seemingly, really bad problems, so if the rifle doesn't shoot the way you would expect, don't panic yet. I suspect that the mix match of metric and inch, will be an issue of the sights are affected, but that should be easy to fix. But it might be why you got such a good deal.
Do keep us informed, perhaps we can help, if needed.
Good luck

You scored, regardless of the mismatch of parts. Which parts are metric and which are inch?

Awesome! I'll keep ya up to date! My brother in law and I are gonna take it apart this weekend as I'm kinda nervous about taking apart an unfamiliar weapon without someone who knows what they are doing near by.
Thanks!

Hi,
This is my first post. Inch mags cost lots more than metrics. That would be a big deal to me, especially considering I could use the price difference to buy increasingly expensive ammo. Check DS Arms for more info. The FAL files is good too.

Inch and metric combos are common from Century and generaly work well. You can use metric mags and inch mags in inch recievers but no inch mag will fit into metric recievers. That is why british soldiers could use Argy mags when captured but the Argentines couldn't use Britsh SLR mags. Just make sure the rear sight is inch if your front sight gas block is inch. You made out like a raped ape on this deal. good Job.

Heh,heh, the cycle continues! Now you got your Garand gear and here comes a FAL that followed you home! Well, look around on the Falfiles and you should be able to score mags at a decent price. Then comes the pouches, the belt, the suspenders,etc.,etc.,etc,,,,,,,,,!:D
