View Full Version : So What Is Your Main Weapon?

I am wondering what everyone here uses as their primary weapons. For me I love my FN FALs and for a handgun I use a Glock19 with 17 round mags. And for a shot gun I use a Berretta 1201. I don't plan on carrying a shotgun and rifle but sometimes a shotgun seems more appropriate than a FN.

For a long gun, I'm going with my M4gery, since I've carred an M4 for work for the last 17 yrs including over 50 months in combat or hostile fire zones. I'm comfortable with it!! My SHTF handgun is my Glock 17 since I have lotsa mags and have stocked up a decent amount of 9mm. Shotty is my Mossy 590A1 (carry one at work sometimes too).
I do have my L1A1 and a few AKs sitting around, along with other handguns, but I guess I'll use those for arming friends.
My EDC is my Paraord P12LDA, but I'm not counting on that for a true SHTF scenario due to not having more than a couple hundred rounds of .45 stored away and the fact that the Glock is the "AK of handguns"--it'll run without much upkeep and will go BANG whenever I need it to.

I like my Glock 22, it has the speed of the 9 mm and the punch of a 45.
For long range my Remington 700 BDL 30.06 or the .243

The .40 is better than a 9mm, but don't kid yourself and say it's got the "punch of a .45" :p

I am set to roll out with the VEPR AK 7.62x39 and Glock 23 with many mags and G22 mags as my primary mags.
I do have my M4 set to go with a back up set of gear or two...

Dang, haha, right now all I got is my M1 Garand with an ungodly amount of ammo I keep buying. I've got 2 AR recievers waiting for my buddy to get back from Iraq to help me build them. Seein' as I'm <21 I don't have a pistol but already have money put away for the 2 I'm looking at when I turn 21. I'd also like to pick up another M1, good long range shooters, well, for my area with dense woods and swamps.

I have 3 depending on the job needing to be done. 100yds an in Moss 12ga pump does quite nicely, 100yds out to 450yds FAL goes to work, and for the off chance of needing to reach out and tough the Win. 70 in 30-06 works will for me.
But if only aloud 1 then a scoped FAL is my choice. I can push any number of different types of rounds down range if needed ;)
hand gun is the old reliable 1911 it just keeps doing what the others want to do.

I got a colt M4 made up with a full stock and a trijicon reflex red dot. Also a entry suppressor on it. My handgun is my 1911 and my shotgun is a M1Super 90. I have trained with all of them and shoot competition to keep up my skill.

Garand for the long range, 40/40 for mid (that's 40 cal AR upper, with M-203) and 357 wheelgun for close in support.

Tools in the toolbox... hmmm.
Well the easiest to say is that I have my Glocks, 21 and 30. Plenty of mags for each, and the 21 mags will work in my 30. The number of rds a 9mm holds is nice, but I agree with the SEALS and Force Recon, nothing says "stay down" like a big ol' .45.:D
My shotgun is my Winchester 1200, not too long, not cut off and properly choaked (or not) will do anything out to 100 yds.
My everyday rifle is either my AR-15 or my Mini-14 (because I have parts), but I'm working on my L1A1 to take over this role, it needs an armoursmith to smooth it out.
Long range work is with one of my two .308 bolt actions, one is a Mauser 98 rebarreled and modified for pure long range (600-1200m), the other is a Mauser action (by Husquvarna?) that I'm slowly building for the same duty.
I can't be real specific, depends on the job/target. As I said tools in the toolbox.

New to the files, so am late and feel unqualified to comment, but got to start somewhere.
Primary:Steyr SSG P1, 5 and 10 rd mags. QD Kahles bdc 6x42, backup irons which I hope to upgrade with rear aperture. This is the complete milspec package including case, sling etc. Instructions for the scope in the manual along with the rifle. Very fast smooth rear locking action which feels like a Lee Enfield.
Everything else is secondary including another SSG, this one a heavy barrel P2 which is less versatile due to its weight and lack of irons.

What's your load at 100 yards? Even the best coyote loads that drop animals at 50 yards won't do much but tickle at 100 yards. Don't believe you'll do anything more than piss someone off at that range. Slugs? Saboted slugs would be your only option at this range. Personally, I think the 12 gauge is a great defense weapon, but lets be honest, engaging anyone at a range of 100 yards or more is just silly. A total SHTF scenario with engagements of that distance, you'd better have plenty of backup, a group of armed riflemen, at your side 25 hours a day.
There was a great thread over at falfiles recently about the difficulty of clearing your house with a long gun. Inside your house, I believe a handgun is completely superior.

+1
Shotguns are close in. 75 yards or closer, and I would only realistically engage a target at 35-50 yards with buckshot.
Slugs are good to about 120 yards max, but why use that when you could use a high-powered rifle in .308/7.62NATO?
Have no delusions; use the right tool for the job it calls for.

This really depends on the situation... Where I am when the "heat" is needed...
If I am at home I gear up with an SKS-"M" 16' barrel with butt..errr thumbhole stock..
My primary sidearm will be my PT-92 (think 92f clone with safety on the frame ala' 1911)
If I am on the road and geared towards "get home".. then I have been keeping a VZ24 in 8mm in the truck. Although... I have put much thought into replacing this with my 59/66... The only thing stopping me is the weight of the rifle..

I was reading some ballistic specs for saboted slugs. Accuracy at 100 yards seems fine, but the travel time of the slug is between .2 and .3 seconds, with cross winds of 10 mph resulting in 6 1/2 inch drift. Talk about hard to hit a moving target, I guess those deer hunters that use only slugs must be better shooters than I thought.
In all seriousness, if I had to choose only one weapon it would be the rem 870 in 12 gauge. But luckily I don't have to choose only one weapon, so home defense is the XD 9mm. Reliable, durable, relatively accurate, inexpensive, affordable to practice with, simple to use. I like it so much that the XD45 is my next purchase.

My picks are
Long range a .308 savage with a heavy barrel and the adjustable trigger.
Currently having a MN 91/30 filling this role.
MBR FAL same calliber as the Savage. Less ammo types to store=more ammo I can buy.
Short to CQB range. On me would be a .40 cal semi auto and a .40 cal hi-point.
Shotgun as needed for the job.
.22 light duty and plinking/varmits
6 guns 4 calibers

I am leaning towards my AK 47 As my main weapon. For my hand gun I will bring my P35 Browning along for the ride. A 1911 lives on the night stand and a Seecamp is in my pocket .(daily carry gun)

I really like my M1A (thanks for the advice Funfaler). After going through the Appleseed program with it I feel very confident with it. I highly recommend the Appleseed training program.
I replaced a few of the Springfield Armory parts on my M1A with Smith industries stuff to upgrade it to current US Army issue specs.
