Well I bought some Steel AR mags from CDNN a while ago and have been using some of them for range work and a test. For range use I have had zero problems with them. I wish I could say the same about my GI mags. I had one fairly new GI mag that had to be culled from the herd on one of these range trips. The bad mag must have gotten bent some how as it was really tight in the mag well and didn't feed right.
So this got me thinking what would happen if I drove my car over a steel mag. The seller claims the steel is hardened and made to military specifications? So I placed a new mag on my garage floor and drove over the mag. But when I look at it I could tell that I only ran over half the mag so I placed it right behind the wheel and backed over it. The car is a 94 BMW and the floor plain cement. Well I wiped down the mag and it looked fine so I stuck it in an AR and I locked up just like before. There is no sign of damage at all. I am so impressed that I plan on getting more soon. This is no plug for CDNN I don't care where you get them but in my eyes these are the answer to a major flaw in the AR system and are cheaper than H&K AR15 mags.
These mags are listed as Asian military with hardened steel. I belive for the SA80. I also like the fact that these mags come oiled up in a oil paper. They look like they could be stored for a long time and have no ill effects.
