Taking the plunge and going to give Duracoat a try.

Did a few mags tonight as a little trial run. Coated 2 M1A, 1 Sig P226, 1 AK47 and 3 AR15 mags in Magpul Flat Dark Earth.

I'm starting to build myself a SPR and the plan is to paint it FDE. should go nicely with the Magpul PRS and MIAD grip in FDE I already have. I also have Magpul Olive Drab that I'm thinking of putting on my M4.

Heres a pic of the AR mags. Will post a pic of all the mags I did tonight sometime tomorrow. It's past my bedtime already! ;)

Very nice job. What did you use to spray?

I have been thinking about getting some and starting with some of my old FAL mags as a test, then moving to my 870 that needs it, and then moving on to some other stuff. What has been holding me back is the sprayer. I would prefer a way to hook up to my compressor, but I have not seen any way that I can do that.

I used a Testors Aztec airbrush that I've had for a few years that is used on scale models. Works well with several different nozzles for fine detail or large coverage ect. Comes with a adapter to hook up to a air compressor. A cheapie aribrush would work, the adapters can be ordered(cheap).

The instructions for the Duracoat says for best results on bare metal is acheived by sand blasting first. My AK and P226 mags were plain blued metal with some light rust. Using steel wool I cleaned any rust up and degreased. Don't know how its going to stick, just gonna have to test them out. I've got them in the oven right now doing a little fast curing. Instructions state that they will be fully cured in 3-4 weeks. After that time they will withstand strong solvents such as Gunscrubber.

Here she is coming together a bit. Got the upper and lower sprayed and assembled. Lower parts kit got a quick spray of Duracoat also, HK Black.
Had on little booboo on the side of the reciever during assembly, will touch that up tomorrow. While you don't have to bake the Duracoat, it does help in the curing process. These had only about 10 hours cure time before assembly.

Stock and pistol grip are both Magpul items, the PRS stock and the Miad grip in Flat Dark Earth.

Ryder,

Nice job. I keep thinking that I want to do this, but I am scared to death.. Me and spraypaint are not friends.. Maybe I can start with some of my ugly mags as I suppose they can't get any uglier.

Nice to see a Mac user too.. :)
