Wow. This stunning book succeeds on so many different levels--as an engrossing story, a character study, a history lesson, a modern day political allegory--I don't even know where to begin the praise. The Last Town on Earth centers on the inhabitants of a small logging town in Washington and what happens when they take drastic measures (quarantine) to try and protect themselves from the virulent and deadly flu epidemic of 1918. When a deserting WWI soldier demands sanctuary, events are set in motion that change the town forever."

I actually did not read the book. I buy Audio books on CD and MP3. Then listen to them while I drive to work on my Ipod. The person who read, was excellant. Changing his voice tone to simulate the different charracters.

Loosly, based on the true story of a mineing town in Colorado. Which actually Reverse Quarantined themselves from the Spanish Flu. This was IMHO one of the best books ever written.

I've listened to many books on my ride to work. This one made me late MANY times. I could not stop listening.

If you are tired of Zombie books, and want a good read. Pick this one up. You will find surprises around every corner, cliff hangers, some gun play, set in a survival situation.

One warning, the plot is set in 1918. Socialism was common in America back then. Unlike today:rolleyes: . So be ready for Collectivism.
