I would think that you could google it and find something. I know they are popular up in the Rockies for hauling water.

There is a surplus place in Ogden, UT (or around there) that I have seen them at, as well as one in Idaho Falls, ID. I do not know the name of either one. Just remember that you will either have to modify the hitch, or get a pintle for your vehicle.

If you cannot find one, you could make up one of your own. A good trailer with a fuel storage tank on it would do the same thing.

I thing TSC sells fuel storage tanks. Check with them or a farm supply company. As far as changing the hitch on a surplus trailer, they are alos usually a much higher hitch height too. there's your excuse to buy that 6by that you always wanted. :D

Thanks 7.62, I forgot about the hitch height.. but then my truck IS that high already. I forget that people drive smaller trucks.. :)

I want a 6x6. My wife asked me where I [I]thought[I] I was going to keep it. Um, "good point honey". I do think they are cool with the multi fuel capability and all but I don't know where I'd keep it and what I'd do with it. There's one for sale in Lapeer at the Army Surplus there. $4500 with a trailer. It's a 1950's REO model. :D

My wife and I have talked off and on about getting Pinzgauer, which I think would be totally cool. After a while I realized that I was better off with that much money getting a decent used pickup or Suburban, and adding the aftermarket parts like a lift and such. Much easier to maintain, and much less expensive.

Yeah,we like our Suburban and we just paid it off! Military vehicles are cool but impractical. I'd still like to own a Hummer H1 but if I had that much money in my hand I'd do other things with it. I also enjoy the ability to get parts for the Suburban at our neighborhood auto parts store

This may sound like sacrilege on a preparedness board, but the H1 and the military variant are shit. All you need is a leak in the geared hub seal to destroy the weak A-Arm Axles. IFS sucks, so, a Four-Wheel one begs for failure. Solid axles rock. Where the MIL-SURP rocks is simplicity and durability, especially the M35A1 five-speed multi-fuel. There were many times my 2.5 ton was the only vehicle in my battalion to pass a road-side inspection or even get dispatched from the motor pool in the first place. I wish I had one for those reasons.

I have the old 7.3 Powerstoke (96), but simplicity it is not. I have the dealer repair and maint books, but there are still issues. Parts abound since it is the number one diesel in the US for small trucks and vans. I have been putting parts back based on the mech recommendations. My fear is the electrical and wiring harnesses.

I finally found a Bantam quarter-ton trailer to pull behind Helen, my m38A1, so,(being the notorious cheapass that I am) I would haul fuel in jerrycans or 55 gal. drums. The trailer really will carry a quarter-ton load, but will Helen's brakes STOP a liquid loaded trailer tryin' to overtake us on a downhill grade...?!! Film at eleven...:D

as ever,

Time to upgrade the brakes?? The time to find out that your breaks aren't enough isn't when you're going down hill with a load of gasoline behind you.

Unfortunately, even when a Jeep has good brakes they don't have good brakes...

Hey all, speaking of us....:p I ARE one! I just joined up here on "survival files" vis-a-vis FALfiles; I started searching thru this here forum and thought I'd see what all the fuss was about being yall talking here about fuel trailers and such.

I'm soon going to be the owner of another piece of DRMO/Gov't Liquidations OD iron - a 400 gal water buffalo, either its an M149 or M-something I forget.

Anyway, I need a buffalo to fill up on homebrew biofuel for my deuce and a half, which might not be as pretty as your H1 dream machine but as mentioned previously will chug right past it once you break it on the trail.

FWIW, my deuce is a '70 Kaiser Jeep M35A2 without winch.

Nice rig! So you're gonna put biodiesel in a water buffalo? Wouldn't it be better to try to snag a 500gal fuel trailer from DRMO? Well, I guess if you're already got the water buff, then that's what ya got.

I'm not sure if it's an issue or not, but you might want to check to make sure the fuel won't damage the O-ring seals all over the buffalo. It'd suck to leak out several hundred gallons of go-juice because the O-rings melted. Also something to think about is there anything on the water trailer that might spark and cause severe heating issues if it's full of fuel.

thanks for the reply, 1911...

seems like when you want a biodiesel or WVO or WMO tank and you don't have one, you kind of end up accepting what comes up.

a friend of mine has modified a few aluminum as well as fiberglas tanked water buffalos for biod and/or WVO, don't have any troubles. the biod/wvo is stable and not a problem as far as flammability is concerned....if I could find one, yeah I'd get the 400 gal fuel trailer version of the water buffalo - just haven't done that yet!

take care - looks like yer deployed in the sandbox. watch yer 6!

Thanks, but I got back from my third deployment a while ago, still have a few months until I go back again. Guess I forgot to change my profile!

Let us know how it works for transporting fuel. What are you going to use for fuel hoses? Tractor Supply has a few different types of hoses/nozzles, might check there.

Have you tried the big govt auctions website? I routinely see large tanks, sometimes tanker semi-trailers.
