bbq,

You can get a lot of information from www.arrl.org. There is also www.eham.net. I know that some of the stuff has recently changed, such as code requirements. The book that you most likely will want to get is Now Your'e Talking. Sometimes can be found at your local Radio Shack, or just order it from Amazon or whatever.

If you need more, give a shout.

Yeah, it does keep things light hearted around here. I like this Forum. A lot less gloom and doom than a lot of the other boards. Good practical knowledge and fun without all the chicken little stuff

If you go to www.QRZ.com they have a "practice test" you can take for the different ratings. These tests are actually the test bank that your test will come from, so if you go through all of them, you will have seen every question on the test when you take it.

I am in the same boat as well, getting geared up to take the test in a month.

Good luck

Thanks funfaler, I forgot about that site.

Yep, it is light and interesting around here. :)

I wrote a primer for ham radio that was posted on another website and written into a guide/primer. I think I should dig that up and get it up here for those who are radio challenged..

Happy to help, just getting started myself. When you get ready to buy, here are some good warehouse sites.

Took it again this morning and got a 69% (getting better)

found a copy of now your talking for around 10 bucks on ebay..

Was wondering what score % you need to actually pass the real test..?
80%-90% ?

I believe I read it was 74%, but I am not sure.

On the QRZ site, be sure to go through all of the tests for whatever rating you are going for. There are 12 for the Tech, just click the down arrow to the right of the word "random" and it will give the option. You can re-take the same test, with the same questions until you get them all right. That way you know the question well. I you just use the random, you may not be re-tested on a question that you had gotten wrong earlier.

Good luck.
