Anyone have a favorite set of LBE that fits .308 mags ( FAL, G3, M1A)? I have stuff for AR15 mags but I'd like to know more about the good stuff for 7.62 x 51

My HSGI Wassatch will hold 2 AR mags per pouch or 1 M1A mag per.

Not a bad system, but the strap arrangement could be better.

IMO, when it comes to .308 LBE's the South Africans got it dicked. I have a SA hippo pouch that holds 8 20 rounders I have to get the suspenders and backpack for. But they're available brand hammer new surplus (is that a paradox or an oxymoron?) from Omaha's Army Navy. The whole rig costs about $80 bucks. The knapsack holds 4 more mags and by the time you factor in canteens and full combat load, it's gonna be more than I want to carry for any distance, but it's good to know I can if the need should arise. I think this rig is the best bargain going for the money. They've got a whole thread about it over at the FAL Files in the gear section...;)

I belive that the sportsmans guide has south african gear about 20 bucks. But for carrying 308 stuff I prefer old US LBE.

FOR FAL OR H-K 91 MAGS I FOUND USING THE SAW POUCH FOR VOLUME STORAGE WORKS WELL ( 6 to 8 fal mags and 5 to 7 HK mags fit ) .:)

FOR TWO MAGS THE AR15 30 ROUND MAG POUCH WORKS WELL ( cut the mag spacers out. the larger mags will go in sideways )

I USE OLD AND NEW U.S. LBE PARTS .

OLD PART IS THE WEB BELT WITH THE METAL BUCKLE . THE PLASTIC ONES BRAKE IN THE COLD .

NEW PARTS ARE THE PADDED Y STRAPS, 1 SAW POUCH, 1 AR POUCH ( 2 mags for special rounds ).

IF I NEED MORE AMMO THEN THIS IN MY AO I AM DEAD ALREADY ;)

I have Tactical Tailor gear.

Their 2 piece MAV vest, with X-harness (MOLLE stuff), their "3 mag 5.56 pouch" works great for both 308 (2) and AR15 mags (3). You can put them where you want them on the vest, and they are rock solid once on there, then you can move them if you want them somewhere else. They quite often have sales, the regular pouch price is @18, on sale it is @11.

You can also get a hydration pouch for the back. Utility pouches and small pouches for whatever/where ever you want. Very flexible gear.

I like it because I can run 308 or AR15 out of the same vest, depending on what I am shooting.

If you want load bearing gear for the .308 or other weapon then go to
http://www.antipersonnel.net/fmco/005.html

FMCO Gear has the nicest load bearing stuff anywhere!!! They make their gear to order and it is designed to each weapon system. My friend has a set for the AK and it is very very nice. I am thinking about a set for the AK as well.

I really like my British pattern 58 ...? I think thats the number, anyway the pouches are plenty big enough and the bottoms are canted backwards so as to access the mags much easier. Mine hold 3-4 30rd AK mags each along with plenty of Mini-14 30 rders and about 7 20 rd Fal mags per pouch.

If I ever get a chance to pick up a SA rig cheap enough , SG has had them in the past for under $20 complete, then I would get one to play with and maybe even swap around some peices to make it more user friendly.

I wish I knew how to get this in the USA. It looks like a nice rig.

I've made a similar arrangement of that Israili vest with a Old USAF survival vest, and LBE with 4 AR mag pouches and 4 one Qt canteens.

The AR pouches take 2 FAL mags EASY, and if/when I help with S&R work, I remove those and add water bottles.

I've seen MOLLE vests in the local Surplus stores for around $40-$50 that will take all my 782 (web) gear, might go to that and add a large Camelbak to it...

I can vouch for the FMCO being the best 7.62 LBE. Fits your USGI belt and straps no problem. Construction is identical to USGI and it's American made! Beat that

Anybody have any experience with Tapco vest? I looked at one and it seemed relatively sturdy for the money, and certainly versatile in configuration.
