Okay in my pondering the current state of the world and our country I thought of this.
What if in the next year or so Castro dies, his brother dies soon after, and we decide to lift the trade embargo we have on Cuba???
Think about it, how would our country change? How about the world? Would we have more illegals, more terrorists, more drugs? What about the economy?
Just something I have been thinking about. Any ideas or comments...

IMO Cuba is too well-aligned with other anti-US countries, not just in s. America but in the rest of the world to cast off the entire shitaree and go capitalist. Even without the castros I'm sure power would fall to some other communist toadie. We screwed up by not nukin' em (when we had more than enough reason to) in the '60s...
as ever,

Cuba needs too much and is too poor to be much or a trading partner unless they want to sell off some of the 1950's cars they have there.

Living in Miami, I can say that there are plenty of people hoping that this does happen. I don't know how rapidly things would change for us or them. I would probably expect some form of puppet government to be propped up by Hugo Chavez. He would hate to lose a socialist bastion so close to the US. I know that many companies and the .gov have plans to move into Cuba and establish business relationships as soon as the trade embargo is lifted. I doubt that many Cubans who are here would return to their homeland. Hopefully, if the island adopts a non socialist/communist form of government, there would no longer be "political assylum" granted to the dry footers who make it to our shores.
One thing for sure. Life in South Florida whould change drastically once again.

Me, I just take my wife to visit her friend near Toronto and I can buy and smoke real Cuban cigars 'till I'm sick. The beer is pretty good too. Oh Canada ...... Too bad you can't own guns there (easily). The USA is da BEST :D
