View Full Version : Do we really need these meds?

Am I the only one that notices the widespread doping of America? I'm not talkin' about illegal dope either. I'm talkin' about whatEVER ails you or you THINK might ail you, there's a pill for it and a name for the ailment that usually ends in "syndrome" or "disorder". How did our ancestors even survive without these pharmaceuticals and the companies who produce them? Did the Puritans need prozac, and just didn't have it? The answer, dear friends, is "NO"...
A record number of Americans suffer from different forms of depression (I being one of them) and medication is either self/doctor prescribed and legally/illegally obtained. I self medicated for years using alcohol and drugs. Why?!! Because I couldn't afford to "talk to your doctor" everytime I had a fart crossways. (In case you haven't noticed you can support a decent heroin habit for what a monthly scrip of yer popular antidepressants cost. ) So you have the choice of bein' an alky/doper or feelin' like yer swimmin' thru syrup alla time, yer broke regardless...It's the devil and the deep blue sea.
So what I wanna know from ya'll is: Are we as sick as we are being led to believe by our doctors and the media and do we really need all the drugs we take, or is it a viscious conspiracy by the pharmaceutical companies and. gov to keep us so fat, dumb and happy that we don't complain as our personal freedoms are daily whittled away...

This is a great topic. And I agree 100%. My partner has two boys that take pills daily for ADD and my comment to him was are you training them to be drug addicts? This seems to be very common with todays young people, every problem in life can be fixed by a pill. Now having said that I must admit I love Scotch. I usally have a couple of shots with dinner every night. That may change soon. I have brought up my kids to not need meds for anything and both are as healthy as a horse. I think that the lack of meds in their life have made it easier for them by not clouding their minds and not giving them mood swings. It always cracks me up when people complain about legalizing marijuana while they consume alcohol or pop their prescription pills.

Having the attention span of a gnat is an affliction that has been visited on me only in the last decade or so and it is of my own doing so I can't bitch. (We won't delve too deeply into "how"...) Not being able to watch a TV show or read a book all the way through anymore is a real frustration for me, so I can feel for a kid stuck in school with ADD. In the old days I always wondered why speed made me "strangely calm" when everybody else was geekin'. I also wondered why I was able to think so clearly while high on it. It was like a hyper kid taking ritalin. If yer not attention deficient, it works like speed, but it calms a hyper kid down and slows down his brain enough to where his thoughts aren't jammed in on top of one another... Now that I know I have adult ADD and have taken Strattera to treat it in the past, I realize I should be on Adderall but it is .gov regulated and I don't want to go through the rigamarole of dealing with that every month. Plus I understand it's addictive. I DO know that if I was on it I wouldn't be such a scatterbrain. The biggest prohibitor, once again, to proper meds for people who need them is the COST. These pills cost pennies each to make yet the monthly outlay is astronomical for someone without insurance. No wonder people smoke pot...

OK, I'm only 20 but when I was 10ish? 10-12 age area, I was taken to a doctor cause my teachers thought I might have ADD. I went to a very good private school at the time which I had left for about 2 years. The real problem was that in the 2 years I left and went to the public schools in my area, which literally are the worst in the country, I fell far behind. But anyway, we went to the doc, this doc immediately said I was ADD and started doping me up. Guess what, I was literally a zombi. The last straw was when my mother snapped cause she was sick of the kid that was happy and wanted to do anything and everything didn't want to do anything but sit around, not because of laziness, just didn't have energy anymore. So we went and got a second opinion, the doctor said that I wasn't ADD at all. He then asked who we went to see before and if he could know. We told him and he said a lot of docs were having problems with her because she was really pushing rid. and other meds on cases which didn't need the high dosage or any at all. Anyway, needless to say, I got off the shit and just had to catch up after the crappy school system screwed me over and stayed in the school until I graduated soooo... yeah. Meds suck. Only ones I take are if I'm really sick (like now... I hate the winter), stomach issues, and head aches, but that's just me.

Maybe kids need ridlin to counteract too many hours in front of the Nintendo. Or is it the preservatives in the McBurgers??? How did humanity get this far without all these mind altering drugs. Hmm

I remember about 5-6 yrs ago where the govt' was not going to allow anyone who took mind-altering drugs(ritalin, tobacco, etc.) to get your carry permit or legally own a firearm. That would be one more way to reduce guns.I know I read this and am not making it up as I specifically remember it at that time.I thought nothing of it as I have no kids(I sold them all:eek: !)I wish I could remember where I saw this as it is real important now in the times we are in.CRS strikes again......

Exactimundo! And if everybody's always happy no one will get pissed off enough to do anything as our freedoms are taken a few at a time. Don't seem too farfetched...
