I guess its time to replace the 'folding ' pliers I broke 7-8 years ago. It was a Gerber and I busted the plier jaws. Seems thats sort of common with them.

I have poked around the Internet trying to get up to speed on all the new models and have found that the 4 players in this game seem to be Gerber, SOG, Leatherman and Victorinox.

Seems all have good warranty reviews, not that that matters in a survival situation (when you need it now not in a week or two).

Gurbers seem to still be braking at the jaws and there is some debate as to if they still pinch blood blisters. I do like the one handed/flick of the wrist opening.

Leatherman has a stigma due to political affiliations with the last batch of losers the Dem's tried to get elected. Fact is I don't really care, if it is a really superior tool.

Victorinox looks a lot like a leatherman to me. Am I missing something?

SOG is looking like the best all around choice for me. The covers over the 'blades' in the handles and the new V cut blade are the features that coughed my eye. The V cut blade is a feature I don't have on my carry knifes. Good for Zip ties and the like. (I once slashed a hand cutting a Zip tie in a moment of carelessness=12 stitches.) It is also the only one I haven't herd of breaking the jaws on.

The purpose for this tool is for any situation that dose not/cant axcess a tool box (house) or kit (truck). It will become a back up to the knife(s) I carry daily. I will use it as a tool (and abuse it if the situation calls for it). I don't expect it to function as well as a chest of snap-on tools but I need to be able to count on it. I know any thing can be broke if you try hard enough but things shouldn't break if you are using them as intended.

What do you got, Carry, use? Do you like it? What did you Carry and break, don't like. Got several, witch do you like best?

Thanks for your help and experience.

I'd go with the SOG. I've owned countless Leatherman and Gerber multitools and they're OK, but I've fallen in love with my buddy's SOG Power Plier.
I've broken almost every Gerber Ive ever owned (my fault, NOT Gerbers) and broken/bent the jaws on more than one Leatherman (I'm one of those guys that refuses to buy Leatherman tools now because of Tim Leatherman's political stance) One buddy here has a Leatherman and it came with this neat little set of screwdriver, torx and hex keys that fit into a little socket blade. Pretty handy.
I've seen the Victronox, but haven't played with it much.

For sheer ruggedness and comfort in using, I'd reccomend the SOG.

Thanks GOVT1911.

The Gerber I broke was my fault also. A tool is a tool and some times they need to do more. I have the same problems with folding knifes in general.

I did not want to buy the Leatherman for the same (political) reasons, but this is a tool that my family may need to depend on some day. I will put my self aside for principle but not the well being of my family.

I was pretty much sold on the SOG but appreciate the hands on account.

Now to start shopping price.

And thanks again.

Well, political disagreement or not, I've carried a Leatherman PST for well over 12 years on a daily basis. It's done more chores than many people's toolkits!! And, nothing has broken on it yet. Sure, it's not exactly brand new, but...it's not broken either.

Last summer, I decided to buy it a backup. I looked at Gerber, SOG, and several Leathermans. I passed on the Gerber, heard too much about breakage. I passed on the SOG, the tools just didn't seem "right."

I walked out with a Leatherman Core. I like the locking feature on ALL the tools, the selection of tools included, and its stout construction. But, DANG, that thing is large and heavy.

I keep on carrying the little PST. I crack a little smile everytime I use it on a firearm, too.

I bought a Leatherman "Wave" yesterday at Home Despot. Looks like a nice tool. All the tools lock into their out positions and must be unlocked to fold them. My old gerber tool didn't do that and bit me many times. My ex wife took it with her when she left - hopefully she has the same luck with it as me :D

Overall seems like a good tool for the $$$

I have 3 Gerbers ( 2 mine, 1 my wifes ). One I have had for 12+ years. The SOG does look like a good tool though..
