Don't Think I Am The Only Weird One But A Rather Handy Place To '' Store'' Those Pvc Containers Without Too Much Chance Of Ground Penerating Radar Interference Is A Local Family Cemetery. In This Part Of The Country, They Are Rather Numerous And Remote. I Am Told Most Burial Sites Are Approx. 4 Feet Deep And The Occupant Is Only 2 Feet Below Surface. Will Let The Readers Decide , Surley Old Uncle Tom Would Not Mind Sleeping With A Little Container As A Partner!
Will Leave The Particulars To The Individuals.

Well, personaly I hated my uncle Tom and would be tickled to dig him up and cast his bones to the dogs if I felt I had a better use for his point of final repose. I just dont see where grave dirt is a better deterent to metal detectors than any other dirt. Unless maybe the haints might screw up the instruments or something ? Put me hip.

you don't dig that deep ,place your containr on TOP of the dearly departed.
metal dectors etc. will read the vault .

Another good idea is to bury your PVC tube vertically. Give a much smaller target area than horizontal.
Seed the area liberally with bolts, used car parts, hub caps and what ever metal junk you can lay your hands on.

Ryder, long metal parts have a much stronger magnetic signature at both ends, which are cone shaped. Horizontal gives a smaller signature.
Also, if metal junk would be normal for the area then use it. If not finding a cam shaft for a small block chevy would signal to the searcher that they are getting close. And encourage them on. You want to wear the searchers down so they get sloppy.
I wrote a long post at website X about my findings with ground caches. Mainly my experiences. I was really into them for a long time. I have a BOL now so I recovered them.
I can post it if you guys are interested. It usually ends up with replies that dissect it line by line:(

better it was was rev war cem or a cival war one ..rember the viet cong did just that so they know about it already ..now a good bit of nickle sand spread all over the place and i mean a lot of it would be a better mask i think as im not up to speed on metal detectors now 10years ago maybe ..a fake grave some thing from the cival war wouild have a lead lined vault and thats all that should show ..if theres some one that knows more please add reply ..but thing about old war cems its realy hard for them to just dig up its a historical place and theyed have to have vidio of yopu planting the stuff i think not the last word just what i think ..

Sniperbait, go ahead and post it. I had always thought vertical was the way to go. Might clear up a few misconceptions.

I have a metal detector that will do about 24 inches easily, the point of the vertical burial is to make a SMALL target, a small but strong metalic signature is still SMALL.
And I can say this much a vertical target is harder to spot that a horizontal target, as you sweep an area the larger the target the less area needing to swept. A large target will reduce the area that you need to search. A strong metalic signature that is small still requires a lot of work to find, and the surface area of the detector is about 8 inches in diameter... easy enough to miss. And a dozen or two old pie plates can make life miserable for the operator, add a few old batteries, pistons, old pipes and the operator will spend days flagging spots.
By the way I know of several areas that were searched with a D8 Cat bulldozer, they removed 6 to 18 inches looking for earth differences, and disturbed soils... sure signs of buried objects.

The area where I lived previously had been logged in the early 30's.
When finished, they left all the choke cables, etc. They even tore out the rail lines and left a lot of spikes, connector plates and a rail.
When I built the house, we catted over averything leaving tons of buried metal debris.
You could spend months flagging that place.
Also, remember that NOT burying is an option.
I knew guys that had sonobouy tubes filled with all sorts of stuff UP IN THE TREES. Ground penetrating radar ain't gonna find that.
