I've been reading and looking at all the posts about BOBs and what not and understandably so, water is number one on the lists. My question is, A: How much are you guys carrying in your BOBs? and B: How are you carrying it? Canteens are always good but how to carry a large amount? More canteens?

Remind me to show you my camelback. That plus a few 5 gallon water cans is fine. Once I buy the retreat property, you'll only need to worry about a personal amount. - btw jericho tonight.... ;) Should be the episode where they get into it with everyone... SHTF!

Haha, see, I knew I'd get you into the show. I just wish the black guy who is like CIA or something and the young son would just pimp slap everyone and be like LOOK! THIS IS HOW ITS GOING TO BE! YOU STEAL, WE SHOOT YOU... DONE! LOL!

Dude, Jericho airs on Wednesdays!
In my current BOB configuration I have one 3L CamelBak bladder and a 2L Platypus. I'll also have another 3L Camelbak in my 2nd line gear.
On a small day hike this past summer, I drank darn near 6 liters (2 Camelbak 3L bladders) for a 10 mile hike. We came upon 2 fellow hikers at a small pond who were cutting their weekend camping trip short because their water filter broke. They were using just Pur tablet to make the water safe. I could see it in their nalgene bottle, the stuff still had stuff floating in it. They also complained that there was limited water on their hike and this was the first water source they came upon. It was in the middle of a Texas summer, but they also did not have a single map! We gave them one of ours that we printed up and off they went to where they parked their car. They wasn't even sure they were going in the right direction.
Baaaa
Thought today was wednesday? ;)
I don't plan on bugging out, but I prefer to carry large quantities of water divided into canteens. If the lid decides to break, your only out a quart instead of a gallon.
Not to mention, all of my Nalgene bottles are compatible with my MSR filter, although I do know of a couple of bladders that have compatible threads, but I don't feel like buying one.
With the canteens, it's eaier to distribute the weight around a backpack for better balance.

I have two surplus canteens on my web gear, and I have two more, one in a mesh bag with strap, to just throw over yer shoulder, and the other is loose so's I can stick it somewhere in my pack. A Camelback would be more practical, I guess, but being a Notorious Cheapass, I'll just "run what I brung"...:D
as ever,

When I was into mountaineering I carried a MSR Dromedary Bag. I still have them. They're awesome!
