Lost all of our chickens last year to hawks and rebuilding the flock with some improved security for them.
Just picked up 2 Barred Rocks and 3 Amaracaunas, have Buff Orpingtons on order for delivery next week. Started on a new chicken coop and enclosed yard for them but fortunately have some time before they are big enough.

Barred Rocks are one of my favorites Not the best meat bird or the best layer, but pretty damn good at both. Rhode Island Reds are another favorite.

Good Luck with them

Barred Rocks are great layers. The wife didn't care for the Rhode Island Reds, they were a little aggressive when she collected the eggs :D

We really like the Buff Orpingtons and have a few of those on order, plan to pick them up from the feed store after the weekend. They are great dual-purpose birds, they are good layers, producing plenty of large/extra large brown eggs and are very good meat birds as well as being gentle around people and to their flock mates.
