these things are great , cheap they hold up , you can fit a can of soup in there , you can store stuff inside when your not cooking ,

not bad. so i assume these and most mess kits. cooking pans/trays. like the u.s. one i have has a pan with a handle. these can widthstand a camp fire right?

yep campfire is just fine .
Also are a great sub for the correct ww2 era mess kit if you reenact german. Just lose the little pan and repaint the correct color.

I've been using mine for fifteen years now. It isn't the most user friendly mess kit in existence, but Sportsmans Guide is practically giving them away now.
They are made of aluminum, and that became an issue a few months ago at the arfcom/frugals Florida campout. I set it directly upon some hot coals, and before I knew it it started to melt. Not too bad, but it is slightly warped now.
I've since started using a Swedish mess kit, which is similar in shape, but larger and made of steel.
